I don't remember how I became aware of Ovenly's Brooklyn Blackout Cake, but I ended up ordering one for a special occasion and would highly recommend this cake to anyone who loves chocolate - this is the chocolate cake to end all others. The cake itself has a deep flavor profile, not too sweet, and certainly not bitter like some others have mentioned (I am very sensitive to bitter foods and this did not strike me as bitter at all). The buttercream is a smooth, decadent chocolate pudding texture that together with the cake makes for literally the most exceptionally smooth, decadent melt-in-your-mouth chocolate cake bite I have ever had.
The cake itself is ~6 inches in size, but in-person it doesn't seem dainty at all - this is a substantial cake - an "official" cake. It came frozen and well packed (thank god) since the box it arrived in looked like it fell off the UPS truck and was sat on (truly, I was a bit horrified at the condition of the shipping box, but the cake itself was, remarkably, perfect).
My cake is also not dry like some have mentioned and my guess is that those reviews commenting on a "dry" cake probably did not follow the defrost and storage instructions very well. Mine is perfect. I'm jealous of myself for having had it, if that is even possible.
I would've stolen this cake from the Trunchbull, too.
According to my daughter in law the cake was delish. She requested it for her birthday.
Not too sweet, and very chocolaty, but it is a heavy cake. You'll feel satisfied with just a small slice.
